| Patrick McKinney, recording solo as Langtry, is a master of the free form instrumental. With one listen to his debut album, As Upon the Road Thereto, his knowledge of traditional blues, folk and jazz, as well as far more avant and esoteric musics, becomes immediately apparent. The album finds Patrick is alone with his guitar, cranking out loose yet mind-bogglingly technical instrumentals that are equally rooted in American musics of the recent past (John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Peter Lang) and avant sounds of the present (Alvarius B, Six Organs of Admittance, Jack Rose). In addition to his output as Langtry, McKinney also contributes guitar and banjo to Iron & Wine. | |||
